Happy Homemaker, Ph.D.

A novice homemaker's attempts to use her engineering Ph.D. to serve her family

About Me

I am a stay-at-home mom who left my position as a university instructor (with a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and a slight obsession with applied statistics).  After six years, I am still transitioning into the new adventure of staying home with my children (one super-fun, outgoing eight-year-old, one quiet and content six-year-old, one silly, smiling, 5-year-old ray of sunshine, an energetic 3-year-old boy, and a serene baby girl).

I have a fun and unique testimony the Lord has given me, especially through my many years as a single gal, the love story He has written for me and my husband of twelve years, and now through the challenges and blessings of parenting many young children.  Oh, and there is the part about leaving the professional world and many years of academic training to become a homemaker, something I hadn’t really trained for, but a role we feel is vitally important for our family at this time.

I hope this blog will provide encouraging (and fun) stories, valuable tools and techniques to help in the challenges of managing a home (Yes, I do plan to use my Ph.D.!), and a forum for ideas and discussion between those facing similar situations.  I plan to share recipes, experiences (good and bad), reflections, lessons learned, and encouragement.  Please join me on my journey!

I am so happy for you Dana! I know how you are feeling as 3 years ago I made the decision to stay home full time as well, and it was one of the best decisions I made. I’m excited to read about your new adventures!

  3. This is awesome! I am a Ph.D. student (just completed my first year) and I am 7 months pregnant (due in July!). I am looking forward to reading about your adventures and the use of applied statistics in homemaking!

Since I’m just 1.5 years out of the workforce and 3 kids into motherhood, I’d love to know any tips you may have! I’ll check out your blog. 🙂
